Sep 22: Welcome and have fun !
A field is a system where you can do all the four basic (addition, multiplication, division and subtraction) operations. You are well aware about field of real numbers R and field of complex numbers C (These are fields with infinite number of elements). The smallest example of field is a binary (having only 2 elements) field (Integers modulo 2, i.e, Z_2 = {0,1}). I asked: Give an example of a field with 4 number of elements. There is no submission for this home work. You can take help of GOOGLE. Finally ASK me !
Sep 27: First home work is out (Due: Monday October 4, 2004) !
Oct 1: Please note that my office is moved to CL 272 !
Oct 4: Please note that my office hrs are in 508 DL !
Oct 6: Second home work is out (Due: Wednesday October 13, 2004). Please note that your first mid term exam is on October 15, 2004 in class.
Oct 11: For your exam on Friday the topics are here Mid Term 1 Topics. Paper will be mixed having short answers, Type II homeworks and may be one or two long questions. For Homework 2, question 8.15 apply shift and differentiation properties to get the transfer function. Find h(t) if you can or you may leave that part.
Oct 13: Solutions to Home work 2 is out. Please note that there is a typo in the solution for problem 8.15 (line 6, page 4 of the solution). It should be H(s)=sV(s) + exp(-2s)V(s). There will be a office hr on Thursday from 2:00-3:00 pm and there will be no office hr on Friday. Good Luck for your exam on Friday !
Oct 20: Home work 3 is out (Due: Wednesday October 27, 2004).
Oct 27: Home work 4 is out (Due: Wednesday November 3, 2004).
Nov 3: Home work 5 is out (Due: Wednesday November 10, 2004).
Nov 5: For your exam on Friday the topics are here Mid Term 2 Topics.
Nov 24: Please check your copies of mid term and if you find an error please see me in my office hr. In next few classes we will be doing stability and conversion from SS to TF in DT. We will discuss solution to Mid term II and a plan for final exam. The final exam is important towards your final grade. There will be one more Home work before final. The final exam is on December 7, 2004 from 7:30 to 9:18 am.
Dec 2 There will be a last office hr before final on Monday, December 6, 2004 from 1:00-2:00 pm. Good luck for final exam !

Catalog Description:
352 Systems II U 3
Laplace transform; frequency response and Bode plots; Z-transforms; state variables, state equations; computer-aided analysis.

Course Objectives:

  1.  Teach fundamental concepts of continuous-time and discrete-time system theory.
  2. Apply theory to engineering problems, such as systems modeled with linear differential equations and linear difference equations.
  3. Illustrate applications in control systems and digital filter design.
  4. Teach time domain techniques (state variables for continuous and discrete-time systems) and frequency domain techniques (Laplace and Z-transforms), emphasizing tools which can be implemented in analysis and designv via the computer package Matlab.
Prerequisites:
Systems I (ECE 351)
Introductory circuits, linear differential equations (ECE 301).
Helpful: Linear Algebra (Math 571-572)
